Maloof Money Cup 2011: Skateboarding party in Kimberley

The Maloof Money Cup, the world’s biggest skateboarding event, takes place in Kimberley from September 30 to October 2. Some of the world’s best skaters, including Greg Lutzka, Andrew Reynolds and Pedro Barros, will be competing for the mega prize money on offer.

There is a pretty big party brewing on Saturday, October 1, which includes a performance by well-known rapper, Lil John.

If you haven’t yet planned your trip, you should start doing so right away. You can fly to Kimberly from selected airports within South Africa or you could drive from Bloemfontein (2 hours) or Johannesburg (6 hours). You could also take a bus from either of these cities.

Kimberley was the first location in the southern hemisphere to have electric street lights and it will also become the first location in the world outside the United States to host the Maloof Money Cup.

Kimberley is famous for diamond mining and boasts a number of related attractions, including the Big Hole.
