Maloof Money Cup 2011 in Kimberley, South Africa

Kimberley in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa is famous for many things. Skateboarding is not one of them, or at least it wasn’t, until it was announced that the town will host the 2011 Maloof money Cup between September 30 and October 2.

The opening day of the 2011 Maloof Cup (Friday, October 30) will be free of charge. Tickets for Saturday are just R30, tickets for Sunday just R40, while R50 gets you a weekend pass. The Maloof Money Cup South Africa Skate Park is being set up near the famous diamond mine in Kimblerley and will remain in place after the event, providing great opportunities for skaters in the region.

The Maloof Money Cup, introduced in 2008, is known as the world’s biggest skateboarding event. This will be the first time that the event is hosted outside the United States.

The list of professional skaters taking part in the competition includes Greg Lutzka, Sandro Dias, Nick Merlino, Andrew Reynolds and Pedro Barros. There will be a vertical ramp as well a street circuit competition.

Popular American rapper, Lil John, will perform at the event on October 1.

Read more about the event, as well as ways to get there on the Maloof Money Cup website.
