It's not too late to discover Pilates

Pilates is a holistic and complete fitness method that has become increasingly popular in South Africa in recent years. Created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, it combines an awareness of the deep torso and abdominal muscles and the alignment of the spine with correct breathing and strength and flexibility training.

Originally developed in Europe, Pilates is today practiced all over the world by those looking for a complete form of exercise that strengthens the body and reinforces the mind-body connection, and South Africa is no exception. Pilates classes are regularly conducted at gyms across the country. There are also a number of qualified Pilates instructors who offer private sessions for focused, personal attention.

And it’s not just for women either. Men - including professional athletes in national sports teams - regularly partake in Pilates classes to condition and tone their bodies in a functional, holistic way.
