Remember those soapboxes that we made into go-karts as kids? Try your hand now at the real thing and take yourself off to Hermanus Forest Adventures, just outside Hermanus, and tuck yourself into an off-road go-kart.

Go it alone in a nifty go-kart

Whizz around alone, or challenge friends and family to a race round the track.

If you go it alone, then it’ll be in a nifty little 1-seater, which hurtles along, scattering clouds of dust and gravel as you navigate bends and bumpy terrain.

If you go for a twosome, you’ll ride in a pipe car, which is bigger and handles better than its smaller brother, and which goes much faster, up to speeds of 60km/h. Such speeds don’t seem that much when you’re in your own car, but believe me, when you’re less than a metre from the ground, it seems as if you’re doing at least 100km/h.

This is fun, fast and furious. And once the adrenalin has stopped pumping, you can always (in season) go and watch whales in nearby Hermanus.

But you might just want another lap or 3; or maybe try quad biking or a tree-top slide…
