Gingko delights

For vegetarians and health food lovers visiting Johannesburg, it might be well worth your while to stop off for a meal at Gingko restaurant in Parkview. The small suburban restaurant is fast making a name for delicious healthy food and a laid-back atmosphere.

Situated just across the drag from Zoo Lake (one of Joburg’s favourite walking/picknicking/green spots), Gingko has put interesting back into health food.  Breakfasts on the verandah are what temperate Jozi mornings are all about. The coffee is strong, the pancakes are hot and there’s a wide variety of healthy options to choose from in the manner of muesli and fresh fruit salads or eggs however you like them.

Lunch is never ordinary and the health buffet always has a variety of both raw and real food options. Their lentil coconut curry has the neighbourhood coming back for more (even on warm days), and their delicious cakes and smoothies will do much to satisfy a sweet tooth.

There’s free WiFi, a place for the kids to play and a really gentle atmosphere.  Gingko also hosts regular health talks, workshops and even organic wine-tastings and offers a real opportunity for the health-conscious community to hang with like-minded people. The owner is also not shy to share her delicious recipes with customers, as long as they promise to come back for more of the same.

Vegans, vegetarians and those with special dietary needs are all welcome, but Gingko also has meat and chicken on the menu, to cater for a variety of tastes.

Gingko is located on the corner of Roscommon and Dundalk Avenues in Parkview. You can contact them on +27 (0)11 486 3361
