Get active in an adventure wilderness

Just over an hour’s drive from Johannesburg you’ll find an adventure valley where you can try everything from horse riding and abseiling to biking, hiking and 4x4 trips.

Ryk Diepram, who runs Buffalo Gorge Eco Adventure Centre near Middelburg in Mpumalanga, is a passionate conservationist who wants to share his wilderness with you in the most enjoyable and responsible way.

He even talked the mighty electricity giant Eskom out of putting power lines through the valley.

Stay for a night or two - tents are available - or bring your own caravan, gear or 4x4.  Ryk especially encourages lady 4x4 drivers.

And although this is wilderness, a hot shower and fridge will keep you comfortable after your exertions.

At night, after you’ve tried any or all of the 8 activities on offer, sit round a crackling camp fire as it blazes under the stars.
