Gateway Theatre of Shopping adventures, KwaZulu-Natal

Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga, near Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, offers an excellent combination of shops, restaurants and most importantly, adventure activities.

Gateway is one of the largest shopping malls in the southern hemisphere, but also has plenty options for adventure enthusiasts.

Below are some of the activities on offer.

Climbing wall

‘The Rock’ at Gateway (pictured left, courtesy Volvo Car SA) is the world’s highest freestanding indoor climbing wall at 22.5m, with 25 different routes, to suit climbers of all ages and ability. Strict safety procedures are followed and instructors are on hand to literally show climbers the ropes.

Go Karting

For those who haven’t tried go karting before, you will find it’s not as easy as it looks and you will be surprised at how tiring it is. Even experienced go karters will enjoy the tight Gateway circuit, which has some challenging corners.

You can choose between a few laps and a full on Grand Prix.

Skate Park

Designed by legendary skater, Tony Hawk, the Skate Park at Gateway is the largest in South Africa.

The park features a 12ft vertical ramp and a 55m mini ramp, both of which have been approved by some of the world’s best skaters. Instructors are on hand to give advice to less experienced skaters.

Wave House

Ride the world’s largest stationary wave at the Gateway Wave House. Whether you are a surfer or a body boarder, you won’t be disappointed.
