Fresh From the Farm

South Africa is known for its incredible homegrown produce - and there is no doubt that our wines, olives and cheeses are some of the finest in the world. Eat In magazine recently held their 2011 SAB Eat In Produce Awards and a number of inspired local producers came out tops. Totally Wild Aloe & Baobab Juice won the category for best new product, while Swissland St Maure Cheese (from Balgowan, KwaZulu-Natal) was hailed for their dairy offering (said to rival the best Swiss varietals). Enaleni Farm, also in KwaZulu-Natal was acklowledged for its traditional farming methods and Drift Organic Farm in the Overberg took the honours in the Small Produce Awards category. For the best markets in the country the Neighbourgoods Market in Cape Town, EverFresh in Durban and the Pretoria Boeremark all received accolades. There is no doubt that foodies who love to travel will enjoy South Africa’s homegrown fare, roadside stalls and numerous eateries serving up the best of local produce.
