Exploring Nelson Mandela Bay's beaches

With its long coastline, Nelson Mandela Bay offers beautiful beaches and water adventures. Visitors can enjoy long hours of fun and sun on the many beaches.

Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality is situated in the Eastern Cape and consists of the city of Port Elizabeth and the towns Uitenhage and Despatch. It is named after former South African president Nelson Mandela.

It boasts the Big Seven (elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion, leopard, humpback whale and great white shark) and numerous beaches, while the area's great weather is an added bonus.

Jonker Fourie, also known online as Firefly, takes pleasure in photographing various attractions in Nelson Mandela Bay. Below are some of his images of beaches. Since holiday time is around the corner, I thought it would be appropriate to entice visitors to these great attractions.

The path below (also known as Lovers' Lane) can be found in front of the Marine Hotel.

Cobble Beach, along the Sacramento Trail.

Hobie Beach, a popular Port Elizabeth destination.

Visitors to King's Beach can enjoy adventure activities such as kitesurfing.

The beautiful Maitlands Beach and the Maitlands River Mouth.

Humewood Beach is the oldest Blue Flag Beach in South Africa.
