Boost your adrenalin at Hartbeespoort Dam

Feeling super-active? Head for ‘Harties’ where you can ride an elephant, go ballooning, try some parasailing, or jump in a speedboat.

Take a day out (or if you can grab a couple of nights) and make your way to 1 of South Africa's major attractions – Hartbeespoort Dam in North West province.

‘Harties’, as the locals call it, is only just over an hour from Johannesburg and you can take your pick of literally dozens of super-active things to do.

Go river rafting, ride an elephant, scramble on a quad bike or canter on a surefooted pony over mountain paths.

Want your feet further off the ground? Then what about parasailing, hang-gliding or ballooning?

Go river rafting, ride an elephant, scramble on a quad bike or canter on a surefooted pony over mountain paths.

On the dam itself you can go tubing, zipping along in speed boat, jet skiing or just sailing.

Whatever activity you choose, don’t forget to look up (or down) on some of the oldest mountains in the world – the beautiful Magaliesberg range.
