Bloukrans Bridge bungee jump: A rush like no other!

The Bloukrans Bridge, the site of one of the world’s highest commercial bungee jumps at 216m, is an experience you will never forget, says Jasper Brand (pictured), a 20-year-old marketing intern from the Netherlands.

Jasper and some friends took the 7-hour road trip along the Garden Route from Cape Town to the Bloukrans Bridge in Nature’s Valley.

“When we left Cape Town, we were all very excited, but the closer we got to the Bloukrans Bridge, the quieter the car became,” he recalls.

“I remember standing on the platform and looking down to the bottom, thinking, ‘Why am I doing this?’ But then the organisers started playing some loud music to get us psyched up, I started getting in the mood.”

Jasper says that one strap was tied around both his ankles, while an extra emergency rope was attached to his chest as a backup line. “Then 2 guys helped me to the launch point and gave me the countdown. I tried to do the Superman pose when I jumped but just went down so quickly that I don’t think it looked very cool! For the next few seconds, everything was quiet, and I was falling at speeds of around 160km/h.”

He remembers one big bounce back up at the bottom, followed by 4 or 5 smaller bounces. “Next thing the guide was there to help me get upright again. He said to me, ‘Welcome to my office.’ It was really funny.”

The experience, including photos and a DVD, costs R700. “It was definitely worth it and I would do it again for sure,” says Jasper.
