Team South Africa on parade

On Friday 8 August, Team South Africa was welcomed back to the country in style, with a parade honouring its impressive medal tally at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

With police sirens blaring and fans cheering from the roadside, the Team SA parade snaked along the streets. From atop the double-decker bus, beaming Commonwealth Games contestants flew South African flags and waved to the public.

The procession took in Ghandi Square in Johannesburg’s CBD before moving on to Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton.

'We don’t roll out red carpets and organise open-bus tours for losers. These are winners!' announced South African Minister of Sport Fikile Mbalula to a crowd of supporters gathered in the heart of Johannesburg.
