Grand White Dinners in South Africa
There's live music, dancing, entertainment, mouth-watering dishes and all-round fun.
Grand White Dinners are a lively social gathering of people from different walks of life, with a few things in common: they are dressed in white, they dance to cool tunes, and they have a whole lot of fun doing it.

These secret picnics happen in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Nelson Mandela Bay and Durban, and are fast becoming a sought-after event on the South African calendar. Grand White Dinners are also held in Berlin, London and Miami.
Attendees arrive at their destination (disclosed at the very last minute) dressed from head to toe in white. They have the option of renting or bringing their own picnic essentials (picnic basket, tables and chairs).
According to the organisers, the purpose of these social gatherings is 'spending an extraordinary afternoon and evening together with friends and family – at a secret location chosen from one of each cities’ options, dressed all in white with a touch of green!'.
This year’s series of dinner picnics around the country have already taken place. Two-thirds of the early-bird tickets for 2015 have already been sold, according to the event’s Facebook page (from which we got these great photos), so get involved while you can.
South African musicians who have played at a Grand White Dinner include the Gugulethu Tenors, Acoustic Element and four-piece jazz band Beat-Route.
Next year’s dates are as follows:
- 21 February – Cape Town
- 28 February – Nelson Mandela Bay
- 18 April – Johannesburg
- 25 April 2015 – Durban
